Scope and content
Series consists of 144 notebooks created by Barry Callaghan to record his creative ideas for poems, articles, and books, and reflections on social and professional events involving family, friends, and other authors. In addition to handwritten text, the notebooks contain many printed photographs pasted onto pages or inserted loosely, occasional sketches by Callaghan, and textual documents from various events inserted at related passages.

Arrangement
The notebooks have been arranged chronologically. Many were given titles on their spines by Barry Callaghan. Those volumes lacking labels were given the title "Notebook" by the archivist. The scope and content notes were based on a journal inventory prepared by Callaghan prior to transfer of the notebooks on 2021, supplemented by details added by the archivist during processing.
