Series consists of files pertaining to Mandel’s work as a political activist. These records document the nature and breadth of Mandel’s involvement with issues including prison reform, abortion rights, the US invasion of Nicaragua, Israel and Palestine, the NATO bombing of Yugoslavia, and the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. Mandel’s advocacy work as a lawyer and his involvement with legal cases and submissions to boards of inquiry and/or commissions are also documented in this series. Records in this series include correspondence, research materials, legal documents, newspaper clippings, press releases, speaking notes and petitions.
Files in this subseries primarily consist of correspondence and memoranda created and/or acquired by Mandel in his role as a professor and administrator at Osgoode Hall Law School. These records pertain to Mandel’s teaching load and academic work, Osgoode administrative subjects, and his involvement with Osgoode’s Italian law course and exchange program with the University of Bologna. Many of the correspondence files in this series also include letters concerning Mandel’s non-academic activities, including his writing and activism pertaining to prison reform and anti-war campaigns. Files documenting Mandel’s involvement with an Osgoode Hall Law School cafeteria boycott in 1987-88 are also part of this subseries.
File consists of letters pertaining to the activities of the Ligue des Droits De l'Homme, Concerned Canadians for Lebanon, and a group opposed to the Mike Harris government in Ontario.
Item is a submission made by Mandel and fellow lawyer David Jacobs serving as notice of the existence of information concerning serious violations of international humanitarian law within the jurisdiction of the tribunal and a request that the prosecutor investigate leaders of NATO countries for violations of international humanitarian law in the bombing of the former Yugoslavia.
