    Scope and content

File consists of a notebook. Inside the front cover bears the inscription, "Thos. Mossenton May 16 1816," and on the opposite page is written, "unfortunately broke." Mossington began writing in the volume with notes and numerical tables devoted to HMS "Cherub," a Cormorant-class sloop built in Dover in 1806. This section also includes: a note written at Woolwich in 1816 addressed from Thomas Shore to Henry Canham regarding the skills of an apprentice shipwright who had completed three-and-a-half years of service (the text was used more than once, as the names of both the apprentice and employer were crossed out and replaced with others); "A cure for the Ague given me by a gentleman in Canada"; and a list of English bishoprics copied from "Bell's Weekly Newspaper" of 21 Feb. 1813. The notebook was flipped and the section entitled "Shipping Book" begun, providing information about the shipment of masts and lumber, as well as a possible crew list.
